12. "Evidence Based Decision Making"

This presentation addresses applied issues of research and clinical application. The priority of applied practice is to deliver an effective service, not to answer experimental questions. Practitioners most often use technology that has been demonstrated to be effective many times. SSD provided practitioners with objective information as to how their particular client is responding to treatment. While Random Controlled Trial (RCT) research may find statistically significant effects within a group these findings may not be replicated for the individual client.  Evidence based decision making is compatible with evidenced based practice where those methods indicated in the literature are assessed with respect to their efficacy for the client.

11. "Radical Behaviorism and Private Events"

Description: Radical behaviorism is the philosophy of science that underlies the experimental analysis of behavior, the objective study of environmental behavioral relationships.  An important dimension of radical behaviorism is its treatment of private events.  It is a perspective that recognizes the significance of private experience, but interprets that experience solely in terms of objective behavioral concepts and principles.  Whatever occurs inside a person, although not objectively accessible, is not considered outside the realm of understanding of a science of behavior.  Dr. Wood’s discussion will focus on a radical behavioral explanation for thoughts, feelings, and images; they are private experiences but behaviorally lawful. 

10. "Analysis of Alternative Treatments in Developmental Disabilities"

Dr. Tony Gelabert, from the Florida Developmental Disabilities Office will be giving a presentation "Analysis of Alternative Treatments in Developmental Disabilities". Dr. Gelabert will be reviewing findings from existing literature on alternative treatments, their outcomes, benefits, and potential side effects. The intended audience includes: teachers, professionals, and parents who have an interest in developmental disabilities.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, December 4th, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium at Florida State University - Panama City.

9. "Verbal Behavior and the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS)"

Dr. Jim Partington gave a 2-day workshop at the GCCC Lifelong Learning Center. Day 1 was about Verbal Behavior and Day 2 the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS). CEs were offered for participants seeking them. 

8. "Applied Behavior Analysis: Making a Difference in the Lives of Older People"

Dr. Mark Mathews from the University of Kansas will be giving a talk entitled "Applied Behavior Analysis: Making a Difference in the Lives of Older People" on Tuesday March 4th, 2003 from 7:00-8:15pm in the FSU PC auditorium (see flyer). This was a rare opportunity to learn more about the application of ABA with the elderly, as there just aren't many experts in this field.  

7. "Routines"

Thursday, December 5, 2002 at 3:30 p.m.; Larson M. Bland Conference Center, Florida State University - Panama City. A videotaped lecture of Joe Spradlin's "Routines" was shown for one CEU.

The goal of the workshop was to teach parents how to identify the function of behavior problems in their children and implement effective behavior management techniques. The workshop was free to the community and offered CEU's for CBAs.

4. Ethical Issues for Applied Behavior Analysts

Dr. Bailey gave an interesting and educational overview of the ethical guidelines and codes of conduct of behavior analysts. In appreciation for his dedication and contributions to the field of Behavior Analysis, Dr. Bailey was made an Honorary Lifetime Member of ECABA. The workshop was free to the community and offered one CEU for CBAs.
